Welcome to the home of the Renewable Energy and Sustainability Systems (RESS) program!
The RESS program is part of the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering within the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State University.
Our program is proud to deliver world-class interdisciplinary education to energy and sustainability professionals, empowering them to lead the transition of our world’s economies to renewable and sustainable basis of operation.
The RESS program offers a 33-credit Master of Professional Study (MPS) degree. There are two main tracks of study: Renewable Energy Systems and Sustainability Management and Policy. The Program offers an open plan as well, for students who want to acquire a specific set of skills to meet their employment goals.
For students who want to quickly come up to speed in a specific area, the RESS Program also offers two 12-credit graduate certificates, one in Solar Energy and the other in Sustainability Management and Policy.
The RESS program enables students to:
- gain advanced technical expertise in their respected areas for sustainable resources,
- understand Renewable Energy and Sustainability in the context of the national and global economy,
- lead the transformation of the economy to renewable and sustainable bases, and
- develop programs and projects that are both innovative and measurably sustainable.
